The BMW i8 is a plug-in-hybrid concept that can drive for hundreds of miles (20 of them on electricity alone) and go from 0 to 60 in 4.5 seconds. BMW hopes to release the vehicle in 2014, but the price will probably exceed $100,000.

The UCLA Luskin Center’s Electric Vehicle & Alternative Fuel Initiative Director, Brett Williams, has been invited to Yokohama, Japan to address “Smart City Week 2012,” an international conference and exhibition. Dr. Williams’s talk, entitled “Plug-In-Vehicle Battery Secondary Use: Vehicle-to-Grid and Distributed Energy-Storage Value” will take place on October 31, 2012 (http://expo.nikkeibp.co.jp/scw/2012/english/conference/professional/s7.shtml).
