Greetings from Asheville, North Carolina. I’m at the “America Healing: Building the Field and Connecting the Leaders” conference representing UCLA Luskin. “America Healing” is the racial equity initiative of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, which is a generous supporter of the School’s Social Justice Initiative.

Over 300 leaders from across the country, representing community organizations, think tanks, social service agencies, faith-based organizations, communications groups, and institutes of higher learning, have convened with the goal of supporting and building an emerging community of practice on racial equity. 

Friends of the School are in attendance, including folks from California Newsreel, Tracing Center on Histories and Legacies of Slavery, and Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy, with new organizations wanting to connect with us on our social justice initiative. Everyone has been generous with sharing ideas, strategies, and best practices, from which the School can learn.

And, UCLA Luskin has its fans -- people have approached me about their admiration for Dean Gilliam, Social Welfare Chair and Professor Rob Schilling, and Urban Planning Lecturer Goetz Wolff; their appreciation for our School's research which provides the intellectual foundation for many organizations' policy arguments; and their genuine happiness that a public service-oriented School received a significant naming gift.
