Dr. Nunn received his undergraduate and graduate degrees at UCLA.  Both his master’s and doctorate degrees are in the field of social welfare.   He is also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).  His primary areas of interest include, social work field education, juvenile justice and corrections, interagency collaboration, and issues related to cross-cultural practice and diversity in the workplace.  Dr. Nunn’s interest in juvenile delinquency was generated during his eighteen years as a probation officer for the County of Los Angeles.  His dissertation, “Lay and Professional Attitudes Toward Status Offenders,” looked at the ways that professional orientations influence the recommendations that are made for those youth classified Status Offenders. Dr. Nunn received the Alumni of the Year Award from the UCLA School of Social Welfare in 1990 and the Award for Outstanding Service and Dedication from the Black Social Workers of Greater Los Angeles in 1995.  For the year 2000, Dr. Nunn was named as the NASW, Social Worker of the Year, for both Region H and the California Chapter. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the California Chapter of the National Association of Social workers and the Stovall Education Uplift Foundation Award in 2006.

Dr. Nunn currently provides training for child welfare workers on how to work effectively with gang identified youth. Dr. Nunn is chair of the Community Advisory Board for the CSU Fullerton MSW program and also serves on the Advisory Board for CSU Dominguez Hills.  In addition, he serves on the Board of Directors of Aspiranet, the second largest non-profit foster family agency in California.
