Title:
APPLIED PLANNING RESEARCH PROJECT MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING
Introduction:
This document constitutes a Memorandum of Understanding between [Student’s Name] MURP Candidate and [Client Representative Name, Title, Agency/Organization] for a [report/study/ project] on [project topic]. [Elaborate briefly on the objective of the project]. This work is part of the requirements for the Master of Urban & Regional Planning at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Scope of Services:
[Student’s name] will undertake all the tasks listed in Exhibit A in order to complete the [project].
Terms:
The service of [Student’s Name] is to begin on the date of execution of this Memorandum of Understanding and shall be completed by [Date]. The final product of the tasks, as described in Exhibit A shall be delivered in the form of a [report]. [Student’s Name] will meet with the [agency/organization] representative every [two/three] weeks to discuss progress on the project. The final product will be completed by [May, 201x] unless extended by the parties involved.
The MURP Candidate will schedule status report meetings with the [Client Representative] and Faculty Chair on a bi-monthly basis or as considered necessary based on project progress.
The MURP Candidate will provide the Client Representative and Faculty Chair with a draft of the final document as defined in Exhibit B no later than [Date]. The Client Representative and the Faculty Chair will review the draft and return it to the MURP Candidate for revisions no later than [Date].
The MURP Candidate will then provide a revised final report to the Client Representative and Faculty Chair for approval and signature on [Date]. Upon acceptance of the final report document, the Client Representative will provide the MURP Candidate with a brief letter indicating approval of the project by [Date].
Client Representative:
[Client Representative Name] will act as the Client’s representative and primary contact person for [Student’s Name] for the duration of the project as defined in Exhibit A (Scope of Services). The Client Representative will provide [Student’s Name] with assistance, advisement and direction as deemed necessary for the completion of the project.
Academic Committee:
Professor X, faculty member in the Department of Urban Planning at the University of California, Los Angeles will be the Faculty Chair for the MURP Candidate. He/she will provide assistance, advisement and direction and be responsible for ensuring the quality of the report.
Compensation and Privileges:
The Client Representative will ensure that the MURP Candidate is provided with all resources (supplies, equipment, etc) as deemed necessary to satisfy the completion of the project.
Rights:
[Student’s Name] has the right to use the information collected in the project in other contexts (e.g., later publication). The project will be filed with the University of California, Los Angeles as a requirement for the Master of Urban & Regional Planning degree. Therefore, the product will become a public document and access to the report cannot be only restricted to the Client.
Confidentiality: (Optional)
Given the proprietary nature of this project, the final public document will be protect the identities of the informants and mask the actual results. The reader will be informed that the data presented have inaccuracies purposely added but the written conclusions will be based on actual results.
Compensation: (Optional)
[Student’s Name] will render those services as described in Exhibit A as a regular employee of [Agency/Organization Name] for an hourly salary of [$XX.XX] for a biweekly salary of [$XXX.XX] for work conducted on this project.
[Student’s Name] will render his/her services described in Exhibit A for the sum of [$XXXX] which includes fees and supplies, transportation and miscellaneous expenses.
[Student’s Name] will be reimbursed for expenses related to the Applied Planning Research Project not to exceed [$XXX].
[Student’s Name] will be compensated at the rate of [$XX.XX] per hour for an average of 10 hours per week. [Agency/Organization Name] will also provide all needed supplies and pay for all copying and printing costs.
Agreement:
