Social Justice Initiative

The UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs is committed to incorporating social justice in its teaching, research, and service. Graduate education in public service – including the fields of public policy, social work, urban planning, public affairs, leadership, and nonprofit management – seeks to equip public sector policy makers with the relevant analytic tools to deal with a rapidly changing world. A social justice perspective – a lens on the systemic, institutional and structural conditions that constrain individual and community development – is a necessary and underdeveloped analytical tool in urban and social policy curricula.

Building on our dialogues with the NYU Wagner School of Public Service, UCLA is developing a social justice initiative, which includes:

  1. student fellowships
  2. course offerings & workshops
  3. public convenings and events

The UCLA School of Public Affairs thanks the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and the Ford Foundation for their generous support of this initiative.
