The California Planning Foundation (CPF) has announced scholarship recipients for 2011.  CPF will present certificates to scholarship winners at the American Planning Association California Chapter (APACA) annual conference in Santa Barbara in September 2011. UCLA Urban Planning recipients are:

 

  •  Shira Bergstein Honorable Mention scholarship;
  • Ryan Johnson Los Angeles Section Scholarship
  • Cullen McCormick Outstanding Runner Up Student Scholarship

 

 


Danielle DeRuiter-Williams, a graduate student in Urban Planning and the Interdepartmental Program in Afro-American Studies, and a staff member to the Graduate Student Resource Center (GSRC), has been awarded the James LuValle Distinguished Service Award by the UCLA Graduate Student Association.  This award recognizes graduate/professional students, staff, faculty and administrators who have served graduate/professional students in extraordinary ways.   She is receiving this award in recognition of her leadership with the GSRC to promote a diverse, impartial, and inclusive campus climate and academic environment and in particular for her work on the first annual UCLA Equity, Inclusion and Diversity Graduate School Welcome Day. 

 

 

 

   Colleen Callahan won the 2011 Neville A. Parker Award for the best transportation policy and planning master’s capstone project in the U.S.  For the 11th time in the past fourteen years, a UCLA Urban Planning student has won an award for the best transportation policy and planning master’s project, thesis, or dissertation from the Council of University Transportation Centers (CUTC) in Washington, DC.  This year, Colleen Callahan, who is currently the Deputy Director of the UCLA Luskin Center for Innovation in the UCLA School of Public Affairs, won for her analysis of air pollution mitigation strategies in Southern California entitled, The Plane Truth – Air Quality Impacts of Airport Operations and Strategies for Sustainability:  A Case Study of the Los Angeles World Airports.  Ms. Callahan received her M.A. degree in Urban Planning at UCLA in June of 2010.
