On Saturday, December 1, 135 potential applicants to the Master of Social Welfare program attended a Diversity Recruitment Fair, developed and coordinated by current UCLA Luskin Social Welfare students and the Diversity Caucus. The fair was designed to reach out to underrepresented students to provide guidance and build confidence in applying to the program.

The day began with a panel of current students and alumni, who shared their experiences in the MSW program. Attendees moved into break-out rooms, where they met professors, students, and alumni in a smaller group setting, and asked questions about aspects of the program such as the application process, classes, or financial aid.

Attendees were then able to meet student caucus group representatives, the Graduate Division, and the Bruin Resource Center. In addition, attendees had the opportunity to have their personal statements read and edited by current students. Lastly, attendees went on a "diversity" campus tour similar to the run one by the Student of Color tour at UCLA, but redesigned for students interested in the UCLA Luskin School.

At the end of the event attendees had an opportunity to network with current students, faculty, and other prospective students during a reception, which gave everyone an opportunity to build relationships.

"I thought that in graduate school, you are on your own," attendee Clarissa Brookins said. "The community aspect that I experienced here today totally changed my perspective."
