L.A. City Controller and UCLA alumna Wendy Greuel will address graduating students in social welfare, urban planning and public policy at UCLA Luskin's 2012 Commencement Ceremony.

In announcing the event, Dean Frank Gilliam, Jr., called Greuel "a champion for public policy issues including public health initiatives, school reform programs, crime reduction measures, public transportation, and efforts to rebuild the city’s infrastructure."

Greuel was sworn in as City Controller on July 1, 2009, the second woman to be elected to a citywide office in Los Angeles' history. As controller she serves as auditor and chief accounting officer for the city, identifying wasteful spending and opportunities to cut costs. Before her election to the post, she represented the northeast San Fernando Valley for seven years on the Los Angeles City Council and worked at the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development during the 1994 Northridge earthquake. She also was a member of the government and community affairs team at Dreamworks SKG.

Greuel is a familiar face to the UCLA Luskin community. She has hosted "UCLA Luskin Day" at City Hall for eight years, and has made frequent appearances at events and symposia hosted by the school.

Commencement is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Friday, June 15, at Royce Hall. For more information, click here.
