POSITION: Associate Director of MSW Education is eligible for appointment to the Academic Coordinator series.

OVERVIEW: The Associate Director of MSW Education is responsible for supporting the smooth functioning of the Department’s academic and student services for the MSW program. The Associate Director of MSW Education reports to the Chair of the UCLA Department of Social Welfare and will collaborate on management and strategic matters related to the Department’s mission. Incumbent is expected to exercise independent judgment and problem solving skills and to proactively recommend to the chair issues and/or activities needing attention. Work is reviewed in terms of meeting goals and objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

In collaboration with the Director of Field Education, develop, coordinate and implement weekly skills-focused seminars as a component of the field practicum.

The Associate Director of MSW Education is responsible for working closely with student groups and faculty to deliver a broad range of curriculum enhancements including: Pre-licensure Course; Annual lecture series; CPR training.

Serve as liaison to registered student groups planning events in conjunction with the Center for Student Programming. Verify that events are in compliance with Luskin School policies as well as Center for Student Programming policies.

In collaboration with the Student Affairs Officer, and adhering to departmental policy, respond to emerging and ongoing student concerns.

Assist in the recruitment, assignment, and orientation of temporary faculty (lecturers), providing support and monitoring as needed.

Teach, as a lecturer (WOS), two academic courses each year.

Serve as departmental liaison to Dean’s Office on an ad hoc basis as determined by the Chair.

Develop and manage continuing education courses for alumni and community field instructors.

Assist Chair in the development and coordination of a departmental advisory board.
Serve as an Ex-Officio member on the Department’s MSW Curriculum Committee.
Respond to departmental needs as determined by the Chair, on an ad hoc project basis.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Incumbent must possess a Master's Degree in Social Work
  • Conceptualization and design – curriculum development
  • Incumbent must have excellent communication skills – written and oral
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations
  • Project Management
  • Teaching/training experience/field instruction of social work students
  • Familiarity with UCLA MSW program preferred

SALARY: Determined by experience and qualifications.
