Dr. Richard Jackson,  Chair and Professor of Environmental Health Sciences in the School of Public Health and Professor of Urban Planning is the host of the PBS series  Designing Healthy Communities ,  a multimedia project that highlights people and communities trying to balance health and nature with work, play, and life, and offers best practice solutions for all citizens. Stories and methodologies explored in Designing Healthy Communities point the way toward a healthy and sustainable future.  Jackson's book Designing Healthy Communities, the companion book for the broadcast,  is due for publication in October 2011.  Both the book and the series explore how the built environment has contributed to obesity and other chronic but preventable diseases and offer solutions to these problems.
