Urban Planning Distinguished Professor Donald Shoup has been named an Honorary Professor of the Beijing Transportation Research Center. Shoup was presented with his certificate during a visit to China in May.  This connection between UCLA's Department of Urban Planning and the Beijing Transportation Research Center will enable students at UCLA to use the Center's extraordinary wealth of data and expertise to conduct research on transportation in China.

While in China Shoup spoke at the World Metropolitan Transport Development Forum.  In recent years, China has faced transport challenges due to accelerated urbanization and motorization.  The forum invited the world's top urban transport decision-makers, planners, and researchers, including representatives from New York, Tokyo, Paris, London, Berlin, Los Angeles, Seoul, Singapore, Hong Kong, Beijing, and Shanghai, to discuss such pressing concerns as motorization, land-use, transport mode-share, congestion reduction, environmental impact, transport demand management policies and, of course, parking.
