Walker Wells has been awarded a 2012 Pritzker Fellowship by the The Pritzker Fund for Environment and Sustainability Education.  The fund was established to support teaching and curriculum development at the UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability (IoES).  The fellowship will support the summer course Wells teaches on Green Urbanism.  Wells,  the Director of the Green Urbanism Program for Global Green USA, teaches a similar course in Urban Planning with Ted Bardacke during the regular academic year.

Professor Richard Jackson has been elected to honorary membership in the American Society of Landscape Architects.  This is one of the highest honors the organization may confer.  The Society promotes the landscape architecture profession and advances the practice through advocacy, education, communication, and fellowship.   A leading voice for better urban design for the sake of good health, Dr. Richard Jackson is chair of Environmental Health Sciences at UCLA’s School of Public Health and also holds appointments in the Department of Urban Plannin

ACCESS magazine, a publication of the UC Transportation Center, released its 40th issue at the beginning of July. The magazine, edited by urban planning professor Donald Shoup, covers current issues in transportation policy and practice in a style designed for the general reader.

For a Comprehensive Capstone Project, twelve UCLA Luskin Urban Planning graduate students spent two quarters under the instruction of Goetz Wolff researching the manufacturing landscape of Los Angeles, developing case studies on efforts in other cities and exploring policy areas — such as land use, workforce development, and government procurement — where changes are essential to ensuring a thriving, high-road manufacturing sector in the region. The students presented their research at USC on June 14.

Urban Planning Distinguished Professor Donald Shoup has been named an Honorary Professor of the Beijing Transportation Research Center. Shoup was presented with his certificate during a visit to China in May.  This connection between UCLA's Department of Urban Planning and the Beijing Transportation Research Center will enable students at UCLA to use the Center's extraordinary wealth of data and expertise to conduct research on transportation in China.

Professor Paul M. Ong of the Department of Asian American Studies and Urban Planning is the 2011-12 recipient of the C. Doris and Toshio Hoshide Distinguished Teaching Prize in Asian American Studies at UCLA.

UCLA Luskin students and faculty gathered Thursday to celebrate one of the school's signature attributes: UCLA Luskin’s Annual Fellowship Reception to honor donors and celebrate the achievements of more than 100 fellowship students. At a reception drawing more than 100 guests, students mingled with donors – including the school's benefactors, Meyer and Renee Luskin – and shared stories of their achievements and scholarly ambitions.

L.A. City Controller and UCLA alumna Wendy Greuel will address graduating students in social welfare, urban planning and public policy at UCLA Luskin's 2012 Commencement Ceremony. In announcing the event, Dean Frank Gilliam, Jr., called Greuel "a champion for public policy issues including public health initiatives, school reform programs, crime reduction measures, public transportation, and efforts to rebuild the city’s infrastructure."
