common themes in Elara High School students’ drawings of their East Los Angeles
community.
The exercise was part of the first-ever Urban
Planning Youth Empowerment Conference at UCLA on Friday, April 12. The students were hosted by the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs Urban Planning group — the Planners of Color for Social Equity (PCSE) in what everyone is anticipating will be an annual event.
Established in 1997, the Senior Fellows program pairs community leaders with UCLA Luskin School students in a mentorship role. This allows the students from all three departments - Public Policy, Social Welfare and Urban Planning - an inside look at careers in the public interest.This video gives an inside look at the students and mentors who have helped shape this program.
Dr. Aurora P. Jackson, a professor of Social Welfare at the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs, was named to the Academic Advisory Board of the Arizona Department of Economic Security, it was announced this week.Jackson joins a group of board members who will assist in the transformaton of the Arizona safety net, advising the agency in an effort to overhaul the system of benefits, good and services that serves nearly two million people in the state.

Odell, (Public Policy, 2011), while working for Innovations for Poverty Action, was able to provide technical assistance to the Kenyan government.

bestowed upon her.
Leap, a Social Welfare faculty member and a well-known gang
expert, has recently been tapped to bring her expertise to three different avenues
to help evaluate gangs in Los Angeles, the state of California, and in Glasgow,
Scotland.

Manisha Shah joined the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs as an assistant professor of Public Policy earlier this year. Shah is a development economist whose primary research and teaching interests lie at the intersection of applied microeconomics, health, and development.
