A post from Dean Frank Gilliam, who is currently traveling in China...
I will never complain about Los Angeles traffic again. And, as one of the locals told me, "lanes are just a suggestion" in this city. (Traffic happens to be the topic of our next Rosenfield Forum on March 19 at the Japanese American National Museum in downtown Los Angeles.) It took me well over an hour to get from my hotel to Peking University, where I met with the Dean of the School of Government, Fu Jun. The School is very similar to ours in structure, but with more departments, including: urban and regional management, public administration, public policy, economics, and political science. It, too, also has a Center for Civil Society. And, when Fu Jun wanted to take me to a "nicer" part of campus, we went immediately to the business school (sound familiar!?). Today is my last full day in China. I've had a great experience. Some of it will be shown on Washington Watch with Roland Martin (on TV One) this Sunday morning. It will be on well before the Superbowl, so check it out! By the way, I'm traveling with quite a few New Orleans Saints fans.
