On March 15, Stuart Kirk, Professor and former Department Chair, presented an invited paper, " Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) and the Illusion of Progress in Psychiatric Diagnosis" at an inter-disciplinary symposia at the University of Brussels. On April 26, he will give the Gerald Seabury Memorial Lecture, entitled "Science and politics in the evolution of DSM," at the UC-Berkeley's School of Social Welfare. We have learned that Professor Kirk was selected to become a Fellow in the newly established American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare (http://www.aaswsw.org/). He is one of 30 in the country invited this year, joining an initial group of six Fellows in this new organization. An induction ceremony will be held in April, in Washington DC.
