Longtime UCLA Luskin School professor of Urban Planning and parking maven Donald Shoup was recently named one of the world's Top 100 City Innovators Worldwide by UBM Future Cities.
Shoup, whose influential book The High Cost of Free Parking is leading a growing number of cities to charge fair market prices for curb parking, was one of just 11 people worldwide ranked in the Transportation area of the list.
The UBM Future Cities list consisted of change agents in the following fields: Built Environment, Civic Engagement, Energy & the Environment, Government, IT & Technology, Public Spaces & Regeneration, Security, Transportation and Urban Policy.
Shoup, known worldwide for his expertise in parking, was the only UCLA faculty member honored on the list. He shared a spot in the Transportation field with Janette Sadik-Khan, who spoke during one of the Luskin Lecture Series events last year.
