Representative Henry A. Waxman (D-CA) delivers the 23rd annual Bollens-Ries-Hoffenberg lecture at UCLA “How Congress is Helping to Meet the Challenges of Our Time” on Thursday, January 28 at 6:30 p.m. in the Faculty Center on the UCLA campus. Edelman, chairman of the lecture committee. “Again and again over his 34-year career Congressman Waxman has succeeded, often against long odds, in getting Congress to do what’s right.” The lecture, named for the esteemed late Professors John C. Bollens and John C. Ries and Professor Emeritus Marvin Hoffenberg, is sponsored by the UCLA Political Science Department and the School of Public Affairs. Recent past lecturers have included Berkeley dean and former Congressman Tom Campbell, writer Malcolm Gladwell, and former California Governors Jerry Brown, George Deukmejian, and Gray Davis. The lecture is co-sponsored by the UCLA Department of Political Science in the College of Letters and Science and the UCLA School of Public Affairs. Rep. Waxman is also the former chair of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform and Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Health and the Environment. Prior to his election to Congress, he served three terms in the California Assembly. He holds and bachelor’s degree in Political Science from UCLA and a J.D. from the UCLA Law School.
