Student Achievement

The mission of the UCLA Department of Urban Planning is to: (1) significantly influence urban, regional, and planning scholarship; (2) train effective, thoughtful, and influential practitioners from a diverse range of backgrounds for leadership roles in the planning profession; and 3) contribute to positive social and environmental change through the creation of thriving communities and a more just and inclusive society. The MURP program is a full-time two-year program in which students attend classes, complete a fieldwork requirement, and submit a final capstone project in order to graduate.

We have five Areas of Concentration for students to choose from (and some students routinely complete two Areas during their tenure): Climate, Environment & Society; Community Economic Development and Housing; Design & Development; Regional & International Development; and Transportation Policy & Planning. 

The UCLA MURP program enrolls roughly 150 students per year.  The majority of recent graduates’ jobs are in the following fields:  Architecture; Affordable Housing; Community Development; Consulting; Education; Environment/Sustainability/Energy; Government (Federal, State, Local); Housing; Land Use; Research; Transportation; Urban Design; and Urban Planning.

On average, approximately 39% of our graduates are working in the public sector, 31% are working for private companies, and 30% are employed by non-profit organizations.
