What are we Missing? Rethinking Strategies to Advance Women in Technology

Registration system coming soon!Event Summary:  This Symposium to Advance Women in Technology will provide attendants with actionable strategies to advance women of all races, backgrounds, and socioeconomic statuses in the tech sector. The Symposium will apply an interactive and interdisciplinary approach to assessing the gender gap in the tech workforce, with an emphasis on rethinking specific, scalable strategies. We will convene policymakers, educators, and influential stakeholders at every level of the private, public, and nonprofit sectors to explore the latest data and outcomes about success strategies and best practices. Participants will leave the event empowered with actionable takeaways. The one-day symposium to be held at UCLA on April 30, 2015 will include keynote speeches and two concurrent tracks of breakout sessions. These sessions will consist of moderated panels of experts and discussions with audience members. Participants will be asked to choose one track to attend for both morning and afternoon sessions. Track 1. Fostering Women as Tech Entrepreneurs What are effective strategies to foster female leadership in startups and small businesses? The breakout sessions will explore proven government, private, and nonprofit strategies to foster female entrepreneurship. This will include a focus on funding as well as accelerators, startup, and resource initiatives. Track 2.  Disrupting Gendered Workforce Culture What are the public policies, corporate policies, and workforce culture issues that affect the attraction and retention of women in tech? This track will discuss effective ways to create sustainable environments in which women and their employers prosper. Intended Audience: This event aims to bring together: ●        Corporate leaders and employees ●        Entrepreneurs, and startup support institutions (incubators, accelerators, etc.) ●        Non-profit leaders and advocates ●        Academics, STEM educators, students, and parents ●        Policymakers and legislators ●        Journalists and the media
