The Basics of Mindfulness for Self-Care and Stress Management

Mindfulness is the art of openly and actively paying attention to experience in the present moment. This workshop will include (a) an overview of what mindfulness is, (b) how we practice mindfulness in meditation, (c) a brief guided meditation, (d) discussion of how mindfulness is used in clinical settings to manage pain and, relatedly, (e) how one can use mindfulness to manage stress and other difficult emotions, and (f) a brief introduction to complementary practices for the cultivation of positive emotions.
