The UCLA Luskin Center for Innoation will be sponsoring Net Impact for an evening with Dr. Richard Jackson from the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health for a provocative presentation on how the built environment affects human health. Dinner will be provided and there will be time for networking after the presentation. Register Here.Dr. Jackson is the recipient of the 2015 Henry Hope Reed Award given by the Notre Dame School of Architecture to “an individual working outside the practice of architecture who has supported the cultivation of the traditional city, its architecture and art.” To quote Michael Lykoudis of the Notre Dame School of Architecture, “Dr. Jackson’s research has demonstrated how cities with mixed use, pedestrian-friendly urbanism provide an environment that promotes health and well-being. In the midst of a national debate on health care, he has realigned the focus to include a holistic approach to fitness that examines the causes of poor health rather than just a cure.”Dr. Jackson is an elected member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences. Throughout his career, he has served the California Health Department in many leadership positions in environmental health and infectious disease, including the highest post, State Health Officer. For nine years he was director of the CDC’s National Center for Environmental Health in Atlanta and received the Presidential Distinguished Service award.
