There are a number of challenges facing the nonprofit and philanthropic sector. Sushma Raman, president of Southern California Grantmakers, will discuss the issues, problems and controversies that philanthropic organizations face in the current environment. She will discuss the intersection between philanthropy and public policy and what this means for the philanthropic leadership of tomorrow.Southern California Grantmakers is a regional membership association of private-sector grantmakers whose mission is to support and advance effective and responsible philanthropy for the public good. SCG’s members include family, community, private, corporate, public and operating foundations, as well as individual grantmakers, and they collectively give $2.5 billion annually in support of communities throughout the region. As president, Raman sets the strategic direction and priorities for the organization, overseeing programming, communications, member services and public policy.
