Terriquez on the Gen Z Push to Get Out the Vote
Veronica Terriquez, professor of urban planning and director of the UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center, spoke to Spectrum News about members of Generation Z who are working to get out the vote this election season. Some groups of young people are assembling voter registration kits for local high schools and community colleges to encourage turnout among their peers. Terriquez has conducted extensive research on youth voting trends that reveal that young voters are motivated by environmental justice, health and education. “Gen Z cares about their communities,” she said. “They care about each other, and when provided the proper information about how elections matter to their everyday lives, to the lives of their families, their communities, they vote.”
